~Pepper Steak Stir Fry w/Steamed Rice~

by Sara Hafiz on April 30, 2010

Pepper Steak Stir fry is an easy recipe that your entire family would love. Its a favorite in my home, my kids eyes light up when they hear that I am making Pepper Steak Stir Fry and as a Mom I love that!  I make this dish at least once a week, also almost the same version  with Boneless Chicken & Shrimp. See my Recipe for Chicken Stir Fry. I like to use New York Strip Steaks for this stir fry dish. I feel that NY Strip Steaks are tender and have less fat, I trim what ever fat is on the steaks. I used Red & Yellow Bell Peppers, Broccoli, Baby Carrots & Spanish Onions in this stir fry dish. I also add fresh Ginger & Garlic which I crush in one of  my favorite tools in my kitchen, the Mortar & Pestle. I bought it from a Thai grocery store, its made out of Granite, I think I will pass it on to my grandchildren someday! :-) I hope that you will make this dish for your family ~ Enjoy!

3 New York Strip Steaks

1 Red bell pepper

1 Orange bell pepper

1 bunch of Broccoli

Baby Carrots, add as much you like.

1 large Onion

1 tsp crushed fresh garlic/ginger paste

1 tsp of Vietnamese chili garlic sauce

1/4 cup or less  Soy sauce

1 tsp ketchup

1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper

3 tbsp oil (any lite flavored oil) & 1 tbsp for the rice.

2 tsp corn starch mixed in a 1/4 cup water

Cut up the Steak into bite size long strips.

Cut up vegetables into bite size pieces.

Soak 1 cup of (I used Basmati rice) or any long grain or jasmine rice in warm water for 20 min.

In order for the steak to be tender, before you stir fry, its a good idea to cook the Steak strips in seperate pot for 20 minutes, add 1/4 cup water, some ginger & garlic. Cook over medium heat.

Once the streak strips are tender.

Heat oil in a large pan or a wok.

Add the fresh garlic/ginger paste & sauté for few minutes.

Now add chicken pieces & sauté until the steak strips.

Add soy sauce & chili garlic sauce.

let the steak cook for a minute & then add the veggies.

Saute well for few minutes, add brocoli & onions at the end.

at this point you can add ketchup & more of soy sauce/chilli garlic sauce to taste.

you can add the corn starch mixture to the dish & it will start to thicken. Turn off the heat.

Stir Fry dish is done!

Steamed Rice recipe

Take a deep pot, fill it with water & salt, let it come to a rolling boil.

Once boiling add  the soaked rice..make sure drain first.

Now let the rice boil for 5-8 minutes. Drain the rice in a colander. Put it back in the pot, add 1 tsp oil & cover with a tight lid and let it steam. the stove should be hot..no need to turn on the heat.

This is the BEST way to steam rice, the starch is drained out & which makes it more healthy for your family.

A great weeknight meal! I add sesame seeds to my stir-fry too, I love the extra flavor and texture it adds. Very vibrant photos.
